Tomato Pulao - Simple version | தக்காளி புலவ் | Thakkali Pulao

Tomato Pulao is a simple, tasty and very good lunch box recipe. This is a combo of onions, tomatoes and spices.
Ingredients :-

 Rice   1 cup
 Tomatoes (finely chopped)    2
 Big Onion (finely chopped  1 
 Turmeric powder   ¼ tsp
 Chilli powder    ¾ tsp 
 Coriander powder     1 tsp   
 Cinnamon   1 inch piece 
 Cardamom  5
 Garam masala  1 tsp   
 Cumin   1 tsp 
 Bay leaf  1
 Cloves  3
 Ghee | Oil     2 tbsp   
 Salt     to taste
 
Method :- 
------------
1). Heat oil/ghee in a pan, add the whole spices (bayleaf, cardamom, cloves, cardamom) fry for few seconds. Once they start to spread the aroma add cumin and fry.
2). Add chopped onions and saute till transparent. Then add chopped tomatoes and saute till it becomes mushy. 
3). Add all the powders, salt and cook till the masala leaves the oil. Transfer the contents to the rice cooker, add water, rice and mix.  Check for salt.
4). Allow the rice to cook in the cooker. Once done fluff up the rice with a fork and Remove onto a serving bowl. 
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve with chips and raita !

Notes :-
----------
# If you are using electric rice cooker, remove the cooking bowl from the cooker once its cooked(Warm mode). Otherwise the bottom portion of the rice will be burnt. 
# Use ripened tomatoes for best results.
