Urulaikilangu Podimas | உருளைக்கிழங்கு பொடிமாஸ் | Mashed Potatoes | Potato Podimas

Urulaikilangu Podimas is mild and flavorful. This goes well with all kuzhambu and sambar varieties. This is Indian version of  mashed potatoes. Potato is such a flexible veggie and its fav to most of them.

Ingredients :-
 Potatoes     2 
 Onions (finely chopped)    1
 Turmeric powder   ¼ tsp 
 Red chilli powder    1 tsp  
 Grated coconut   1 tbsp  
 Curry leaves   few
 Hing    pinch
 Mustard    ¼ tsp
 Urad dal    ½ tsp
 Channa dal    ½ tsp
 Oil    1 tsp
 Salt to taste

1). Cut the potatoes into half and pressure cook. Peel the skin and mash it, keep aside.  
2). Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and let it splutter. Then add urad dal, channa dal and fry till it turns golden brown. Then add onions, curry leaves, hing, salt and saute till onions turns translucent.
 3). Add turmeric powder, chilli powder and mix well. Then add mashed potatoes and combine. Finally add the grated coconut and mix. Switch off ! 
Serve with hot rice with sambar or curd rice. Leftover podimas can be used as filling for sandwich. 

Notes :-

# You can use slitted green chillies instead of red chilli powder.
# When boiling potatoes, makes sure its not mushy.
