Simple Tomato Thokku | தக்காளி தொக்கு | Thakkali Thokku

Tomato Thokku is the simplest and tastiest accompaniment with longer shelf life. It can also be used as a spread for sandwich.

Ingredients :-

 Tomatoes  4 - 5
 Red Chilli powder            1 tsp          
 Turmeric powder  ¼ tsp
 Sambar powder  ½ tsp
 Curry leaves  1 Sprig
 Urad Dal ½ tsp
 Channa Dal  ½ tsp
 Gingelly Oil  ½ tsp
 Salt  to taste

Method :-

1). Wash the tomatoes and puree it. Set aside. 
2). Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan, add mustard and let it splutter. Then add urad dal, channa dal and curry leaves, saute until the dal turns golden brown.
3). Add the ground tomato paste and let it boil. When it comes to boil, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and combine well. 

4). Cook covered in low flame till it reaches thick consistency, stirring in between. After it cools, transfer it to a clean airtight container. I served it with Oats Idli 


Notes :-

# I prefer grinding tomatoes to a smooth paste, but u can very well grind it to chunky consistency. 
# Do not add water at any stage (while grinding or cooking). 
# Gingelly Oil is must for this recipe, it has so much health benefits and it gives a wonderful taste.
