Onion Chutney | வெங்காய சட்னி | Vengaya Chutney

Onions Chutney is simple, quick and spicy accompaniment that goes well with soft Idli's and dosa varieties. Though there are many versions for this onion chutney, I am posting the basic version today.. 

Ingredients :-
 Big Onion    1
 Red Chillies    5 
 Tamarind   small piece 
 Oil   1 tbsp 
 Salt to taste

Method :-
1). Peel the skin of shallots and wash it nicely. If using big onions, chop it roughly.

2). Heat oil in a pan, add the onions along with salt and red chillies. Saute until onions turns golden brown. Switch off the flame and let it cool. Add the tamarind and grind it to a smooth chutney !
Seasoning is optional, I prefer the chutney untempered and thick. Serve with hot Idli's.
