Beetroot Poori | பீட்ரூட் பூரி

Beetroot Poori is attractive and gives a colorful twist to the regular Poori's. Poori is a popular South-Indian breakfast recipe. DH loves poori. So, I always try variations and this is one hit recipe. This is definitely kids friendly recipe especially for its color.
 
Beetroot has good source of fiber, gives better stamina, improved blood flood and lower blood pressure. Check out my other Poori recipes which I have already posted :- Spinach Poori, Traditional Poori.

Ingredients :-

 Beetroot    1 
 Wheat flour (Aata)    1 cup
 Cumin Powder   1 tsp  
 Sugar    pinch  
 Sesame oil    1 tsp  
 Oil   for frying  
 Salt to taste


Method :-

1). Peel the skin from beets and chop it roughly. Grind it to smooth paste adding little water. Make sure there are no lumps. Keep aside. 
2). In a wide mixing bowl, mix flour, salt and cumin powder. Then add the pureed beetroot along with a tsp of sesame oil and mix everything together. Add water little at a time and make a stiff and smooth dough.
3). Make equal sized balls from the prepared dough. Dust with flour/oil and flatten the balls it to medium-sized thick circles. Heat oil in a pan for deep frying the poori's.  
 4). When the oil is hot, gently slide the rolled poori's in to the pan. Press the poori's with the spatula as it helps in puffing up. Flip it to the other side and fry till it turns light brown. Remove from the pan and drain it on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil. Repeat the process for the rest of the dough.  
Serve hot ! I enjoyed this colorful poori's with Aloo Peas Masala.
