Peerkangai Paal Kuzhambu | பீர்க்கங்காய் பால் குழம்பு | Ridgegourd Milk Gravy

Peerkangai Paal Kuzhambu is a delicious gravy prepared by cooking ridge gourd in thick coconut milk. This is very simple to prepare, yet tastes very rich with the addition of coconut milk. I learnt this recipe from my mother-in-law which she passed it to me from her MIL. I haven't tasted this gravy before. It has been my favorite since the time I tasted it. 

Ingredients :-
 Peerkangai | Ridge gourd     1 
 Onion   1  
 Coconut milk    1 cup  
 Chilli powder  2 tsp  
 Turmeric powder  ¼ tsp
 Sambar powder  ¾ tsp
 Mustard   ¼ tsp
 Salt to taste

1). Wash and peel the skin of the ridge gourd. Cube the ridge gourd and keep aside. 
2). Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and let it splutter. Then add onions along with salt and saute till they turn translucent. Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder and sambar powder and mix well.
3). Add the chopped ridge-gourd and mix well. Sprinkle little water and cook covered in a medium flame till it becomes soft.
4). Then add the coconut milk and combine well. Let the gravy cook in sim for 10 minutes. When it begins to boil, switch off ! Serve how with steamed rice.
