Nendhara Pazha Podi | Raw Banana Powder | Kaya podi | Ethakka Podi | Homemade Baby Food

Nendhara Pazham (Kerala Banana) powder is power packed with carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. This simple and tasty powder porridge suits for babies of 6th months of age and above. You can also get Banana powders available ready made in the shops. However I personally prefer homemade foods for my little one.

I have heard from friends that normal yellow banana cause cold and cough during winter. So I personally prefer these kerala banana than yellow bananas for this recipe. They are rich in carotenoids and can be taken even in winters. Carotenoids act as antioxidants that help protect against chronic disease. In Kerala, the porridge prepared using this powder is considered as the first food for the baby.

Please do read the full recipe along with the notes before trying this. I strongly recommend you to consult your pediatrician before feeding something new to your baby. What suits one child may not suit another. You need a lot of patience to try and find out what works for your baby.

Method :-
1). Chop the sides and peel the banana using knife. It will be bit difficult to peel as it is raw. Repeat the process for all the banana and keep aside. Using slicer or knife, slice them into thin rounds. Make sure it is of same size.

2). Arrange the slices on a large plate and sun dry it till they turn crispy. It may take 1-2 days to completely dry.

3). Once dried, using a food processor powder it finely. You will get a nice aroma. Sieve to sift and let it cool. Store it an airtight container.

Notes :-
# Don't use the regular banana for this recipe.
# Make sure you dry the banana slices well before grinding it.
# Slice the banana thin and of same size so that it gets dried quickly and uniformly.
# Raw banana is must than riped ones.
# Drying time vary depending upon the temperature.
# To retain the freshness of this powder, always store it in a airtight container in the refrigerator.
# This powder helps in weight gain.
# You can also use this powder to make Banana Halwa
