Happy Holi 2013 !!

Holi Festival is a Hindu spring tradition where people throw brightly colored, perfumed powder at each other in celebration of spring - the season of hope and new beginnings.

Holi is commonly referred to as the "Festival of Colors". People exuberantly throw colored powder and water all over each other, have parties, and dance under water sprinklers. On the eve of Holi people light bonfires to mark the occasion and ward of evil spirits. Holi is a very carefree festival that's great fun to participate in if you don’t mind getting wet and dirty.

Holi festival may be celebrated with various names and people of different states might be following different traditions. But, what makes Holi so unique and special is the spirit of it which remains the same throughout the country and even across the globe, wherever it is celebrated.

In the past, people used bamboo to make pichkaris or water guns. The colors were traditionally made of Neem, Kumkum, Haldi, Bilva, and other medicinal herbs prescribed by Ayurvedic doctors. It is said that the naughty and mischievous Lord Krishna started the trend of playing colours. He applied colour on her beloved Radha to make her one like him. Different communities in India celebrate Holi by preparing special food.

Hearty Holi wishes to all my Indian friends and readers through-out the world !!
