Onion Tomato Gotsu | வெங்காய கொட்சு

Simple Gotsu is a gravy that goes well with tiffin varieties. This gotsu is my dad's favorite. My mom prepares it with shallots, but, I have substituted it with big onions.

Ingredients :-

 Onion (finely chopped)   1
 Tomatoes (finely chopped)   2
 Green Chillies   5
 Curry leaves   few
 Hing   pinch
 Turmeric powder   ¼ tsp
 Sambar powder  1 tsp
 Oil  2 tsp
 Channa dal  1 tsp
 Urad dal  1 tsp
 Mustard    ¼ tsp
 Salt to taste

Method :-
1). Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard seed and let it splutter. Then add hing, curry leaves, urad dhal and channa dhal, saute till they turn golden brown. Add the onions, green chillies and saute until they turn translucent. Then add the tomatoes.
2). Saute the tomatoes till it becomes mushy. Then add 1 cup of water along with salt, mix well and let it boil.
3). When it begins to boil, add turmeric powder, sambar powder and allow it to cook in low flame until the gotsu thickens and oil separates to the top. Switch off !
Gotsu is ready ! Serve with Idli / Dosa variety.
Notes :-
# Add extra water/tamarind extract if you prefer the gravy to be thinner.
